David Warner handed three demerit points for his stoush with De Kock
South Africa have sought clarity over the less-serious charge Level 1 thrown at the wicketkeeper-batsman.
Australian vice-captain David Warner has been fined 75% of his match fees and also handed three demerit points for his ugly altercation with Quinton de Kock in the first Test against South Africa. While the visitors won the opening game of the series, emotions got better of the players on the field which led to Warner trying to attack De Kock on the fourth day. However, the decision was made after Warner decided not to contest the Level two charges levied by ICC earlier on the day.
The incident happened on the fourth day of the Test match when the match was tantalisingly poised with the partnership between Aiden Markram and De Kock. Warner supposedly sledged for about one hour to De Kock according to reports which prompted the latter to say something about his wife. However, that pumped Warner up and as angry at him while the teams were going through the tunnel for the tea break.
What about De Kock?
David Warner has accepted the charges of bringing the game into disrepute and suddenly is only a point away from incurring a ban of 1 Test or 2 ODIs, whichever comes first. He has been fined a total amount of AUD 13,500 (Rs 683,862) for his actions. South Africa, on the other hand, have sought clarity over the less-serious charge Level 1 thrown at Quinton de Kock for his involvement in the ugly fallout. Level One relates to breaking the spirit of the game and it includes a broad range of charges over a player.
It is known that once ICC provides the clarity, the team from the rainbow nation will record their response. According to the reports, they might contest the charges on the wicketkeeper-batsman in which case the formal hearing on the matter will take place later on Wednesday.
The second Test match of the four-match series will commence on March 9 and the hosts would want to clear the matter in order to concentrate on the game to level the series after losing the first game.
