David Warner looks happier in DC camp and you can see that in his performance: Sunil Gavaskar
Warner has marked his comeback well in IPL 2022 after a poor run last season.
Former India captain and cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar feels that David Warner did not get the right atmosphere at the Sunrisers Hyderabad camp last year and as a result failed to get back into form. Warner has been a spectacular player in the Indian Premier League since he joined it in the year 2009, and Gavaskar feels that Warner seems to be very happy ever since he joined the DC camp.
He represented the Delhi Daredevils making his debut and then was brought by Sunrisers Hyderabad as he stayed by the side from 2014 to 2021. He was roped in by the Delhi Capitals in the auction this year. Though he entered the tournament late, he has been a class performer for the side, scoring 219 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 157.55.
While speaking on Star Sports, Gavaskar said: “Sometimes when you are not doing well, the atmosphere in the change room isn’t always the best, and that kind of affects your game. That seems to have happened with David Warner.”
“Ever since he’s moved to Delhi Capitals, Warner looks happier and you can see that in his performance. When that kind of performance happens, what it does is makes the player want to do something more. It also lifts the other players in the team because they know what a (quality) player he is. What a fabulous player David Warner has been for the franchises he’s played for. Last year was an exception because that can happen to anybody. To see him comeback this is way is just fabulous,” Gavaskar added.
David Warner uses his fitness well and looks to bat deep: Matthew Hayden
Matthew Hayden, the former Australian batter, praised Warner for the manner in which he accelerates his game for the Delhi Capitals, adding the left-handed batter’s conditioning is helping him play well every year.
“No matter what bowlers, what franchise he plays for. When he does get going, David Warner is a very very special player. He obviously uses the pace (of the ball) very well but you never see a slide in his game, he never sort of decelerates in his game. I think his opening partner Prithvi Shaw is scoring pretty heavily at the start. Shaw’s strike rate through the powerplay is very high but David Warner uses his fitness well and looks to bat deep. He knows how to pace his innings,” stated Hayden.
Warner was benched last season after he failed to perform for the Sunrisers Hyderabad which left the cricketing fraternity shocked and concerned at the same time. But he has been doing great this season and he has improved his performance with each game passing by.
