The Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to register an emphatic win over the Gujarat Lions in their last league game this year. The match was not a usual one and was a high-pressure game. A defeat in the match would have sent SRH crashing out of the tournament. However, it was a steady captain’s knock from David Warner that led Sunrisers to an 8 wicket win in the game.

Chasing a modest target of 154, the defending champions managed to overhaul the target in less than 19 overs. They lost the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan early on in the innings and Moises Henriques perished soon too. Two quick dismissals in the same over bowled by Praveen Kumar set the tone for Gujarat Lions in the game. However, it was an unbeaten century stand between David Warner and Vijay Shankar that helped SRH cruise to the playoffs.

Warner remained unbeaten on 69 that came off 52 balls with 9 fours to his credit. Interestingly, all was not well in the innings for Warner. He had a bit of luck going his way in the game. It was in the 11th over in the game when an umpiring howler saw Warner survive. Young leg spinner Ankit Soni was the bowler.

Soni bowled one wide of the off stump and the batsman David Warner tried to cut the ball to direct it towards the fine leg. All that he could manage was a faint edge. Dinesh Karthik, the wicket-keeper pocketed the catch and Soni started to celebrate. However, umpire Anil Chaudhary stood unimpressed in the appeal and ruled it not out.

Gujarat Lions fielders were stunned and Munaf Patel was seen walking to David and having a word with him. Karthik and Soni could not believe the decision as well. Warner also opted to stay back and did not walk away.

The match was as good as gone after that. At that stage, the SRH camp needed close to 80 runs to win. Warner made the most out of the let off given to him. He managed to guide his team to a crucial win. Twitterati was unimpressed with umpiring and trolled him for his horrendous call.
