David Warner replies to acquisitions against the Australian team of not playing with the right spirit: The Test match between Australia and New Zealand was a brilliant match to watch but it wasn’t one for the bowlers where they struggled to pick up wickets on a flat deck at the WACA and the batsmen made merry. Counting on the double century of David Warner, Australia declared their first innings for 559 and New Zealand riding on their double centurion Ross Taylor’s score of 290, posted a total of 624 and took the first innings lead in a match which is shaping towards a draw.
The Australian cricketers once again were criticized for their bad decree of sportsmanship when they failed to appreciate Ross Taylor’s effort and patience in an attempt to reach a triple hundred. Ironically Ross Taylor had recognized the batting of David Warner and had congratulated him when he had scored a double hundred.
Former Australian cricketer Dirk Nannes bemoaned ‘Australian sportsmanship’ after their latest handshake snub. Ross Taylor became the top-scoring visiting batsman in Australia and got his team to the highest total against the hosts since 1946.
“After the innings – he’s made 290 – not one person from the Australian camp went and shook his hand, in the spirit of the way this game has been played … I can’t help but be disappointed that no one actually went out to him and shook his hand. It’s not that hard is it? You don’t have a guy bat for a day and half out and there and just not even acknowledge it. That’s horrendous sportsmanship,” Nannes said. Nannes remarked that this couldn’t have been a lapse on the part of the Australians and has become a regular affair and it wasn’t good to look for any sport lover.
David Warner defended his team through a tweet stating, “His wicket was caught on opposite side of the field then we had to run off to get ready!!!!!!”
Ross Taylor modestly brushed it off as a coincidence. He said, “When I get out I just walk off the ground as quick as I can, I don’t want to stay out there any longer than I have to,” Taylor said. “I got out on the far side of the boundary and they were all congratulating him (substitute fielder Jon Wells) and I was walking off as fast I could to hopefully come and get a catch (in the over before lunch). I’m sure it was a coincidence more than anything.”
