Australia vice-captain and opener David Warner has been retired hurt after being struck on the side of the neck by a Josh Hazlewood bouncer while batting in Australia’s intra-squad practice match in Darwin on Tuesday. The aggressive opener missed an attempted to hook a delivery and was struck, but immediately got up to his feet and was able to leave the field without much of a problem. He was under the medical staff’s assist.

The Kangaroos are playing a three-day practice match, between a David Warner XI and a Steven Smith XI, in Darwin, ahead of their much talked about Test tour of Bangladesh. Australia will take part in a two-Test match series in Bangladesh, starting later this month. They will also take part in a practice game before the 1st Test match.

A big series ahead for Bangladesh

Bangladesh are taking the home series very seriously, as this will provide them an opportunity to extend their excellent home run. They have also roped in former Australian spinner Stuart MacGill for three months.

“MacGill is here for three months to see, and if he is happy and the players are benefiting, it will be long-term,” said Hathurusingha.“We didn’t have a spin bowling coach since (Ruwan) Kalpage left us. We need that help, as that’s a specialised area,” he said. “Working, for me, is easier because all these guys are good coaches and they know what they are doing.”

The first Test against Australia is at Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium from August 27. The second game commences on Chittagong from September 4 onwards. Australia were to play two Tests in Bangladesh in October 2015 but the tour was cancelled after a wave of attacks by Islamist extremists in the Muslim-majority nation.

The no. 3 ranked side in Test cricket, Australia will be wary of their opponents as they know that the spirited team can spoil their party. If the visitors lose both the Test matches, then they will drop down to no 6 in the rankings.
