David Warner reveals the issues he faced while facing Jasprit Bumrah in the first ODI

It turned out to be a one-sided encounter of epic proportions as the duo of Aaron Finch and David Warner went on to shellack the famed Indian bowling attack to all corners of the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai during the first ODI. In the end, it turned out to be a stroll in the park for the Aussies as the duo of David Warner and Aaron Finch amassed a monstrous 258-run unbeaten stand to help the visitors pull-off a ten-wicket heist and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

David Warner’s belligerence was at the heart of the Australian batting effort as the southpaw only went to become the fastest Australian to amass 5000 ODI runs but also to his 24th ton in 50-over cricket. Warner looked at complete ease against the likes of Bumrah and Co. However, at the post-match press conference, the southpaw acknowledged the issues that he had to face while countering Bumrah.

“It’s about being nice and still. I can’t imagine someone like Brett Lee running in from almost the boundary and just sort of staggering in there and all of a sudden bowl 150kmph, it takes a while to get used to and that’s great skill from Bumrah.”

Warner added, “His (Bumrah’s) bouncers surprise you, his yorkers surprise you and then when he bowls the change-up it’s very, very difficult, it’s like when Lasith Malinga at his prime, he bowled 140kmph and swung them. But you knew you were going to get a yorker or a bouncer but it was how are you going to play that and that’s what’s so unique,” added Warner as quoted by Times Now.

Kuldeep Yadav, even though he didn’t pick up a wicket, was comfortably India’s best bowler on show on Tuesday. The Chinaman troubled both Finch and Warner and the southpaw revealed the subtle difference that Yadav has made to his bowling.

“And with Kuldeep (Yadav), he’s got great change-ups as well. I find that he’s bowling a fraction slower these days, quite different to Rashid Khan who bowls at 100kmph, under lights, I think left-arm chinamen are very difficult to pick,” he added.
