David Warner signs two-year deal with Sydney Thunder to mark BBL return

Australia’s star batter David Warner has confirmed his participation for the next two seasons of the Big Bash League (BBL) after signing a two-year deal with his original club, the Sydney Thunder. The left-handed batter will be making his return to the BBL after 2013.

Earlier, there were some reports of Warner wanting to play in the lucrative International League T20 (ILT20) which is set to clash with the BBL. However, tthe star batter is now set to play for Thunders in the upcoming BBL edition. Warner is expected to be available for five regular-season matches after the national team faces South Africa in the final Test match of the series in early January.

“I care deeply about the game, and I am conscious that the conditions that I enjoy as a professional cricketer have largely come from other senior players who have come before me,” he said. “That is how the game is structured and I understand that my contribution to the future of the BBL will hopefully benefit the next generation of players long after I am retired,” Warner was quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Meanwhile, Thunders’ coach Trevor Bayliss has also lauded Warner for his contribution to the game and said that he will continue to inspire the young generation to play and love cricket. “Davey’s record on the field speaks for itself and I have no doubt he already has, and will continue to, inspire many, many kids to play and love cricket.”

Talking about Warner’s performance in the BBL, the left-handed batter smashed a century in his very first outing, against Melbourne Stars, in just 50 balls, which helped his side to win the game easily. Coming in to the next season, Warner will want to give some match-winning performances with the bat.
