He might have been banned from the stepping onto the 22 yards for a year as an international cricketer following a ball-tampering scandal in South Africa early in 2018 but the admiration for David Warner the dashing batter hasn’t dipped. The hard-hitting Australian opener will now be seen playing for Sylhet Sixers in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), a news which was confirmed on October 26.

On Thursday, the Sixers gave a hint about Warner’s addition to their ranks by posting a video of him batting with full authority on their Facebook page. The video was captioned: “He is a leader. He is a mighty hitter. He is a superstar. Who do you think is going to come as a new Sixer this season?” The fans were guessing that it would be the 31-year-old New South Wales batsman and then the mystery was revealed by the cricketer himself.

In a video posted on the same social media page of the Sixers, Warner himself confirmed his participation in the next edition of the BPL for the Sixers. “Hello Bangladesh, David Warner here. I am very excited to let you know that I am now a Sixer. I can’t wait to be a part of the Sylhet Sixers’ family. See you soon. Laagle baari,… Boundaari!” he said. “Laagle baari… Boundaari” is the official slogan of the Sixers.

Warner, a prolific hitter in T20Is

Warner has been playing franchise T20 cricket after his ban and featured in the recent Caribbean Premier League for St Lucia Stars. The man is one of the most prolific hitters in modern-day cricket with 12,000 international runs. In 70 T20Is for Australia, he has scored almost 1,800 runs at a strike rate of over 140. In T20s, he has amassed 7,888 runs with six sixes and has a strike rate of 142.40.

Sixers have not been able to win the BPL title yet. With just 18 wins from 46 matches in four seasons, the Sixers have the least success rate among all the BPL teams. Their best performance in the league was finishing third in the 2013 edition.
