Australia’s star batter David Warner experienced a lean patch prior to the T20 World Cup 2021. However, he made sure he brings a shift in his fortunes in the mega event. The former Australia cricketer Tom Moody has now opened on what it means to Australia and Warner to taste the World Cup glory.

Warner had a tough time with the willow ahead of the start of the multi-nation tournament. He registered a string of low scores and thus was dropped from the Sunrisers Hyderabad side in IPL 2021. But the batter made a stronger comeback and shushed the critics who questioned his form.

Moody who is also the Director of Cricket at SRH feels that Warner is a champion player not just in T20Is but across formats. He also asserted that the batter was left out from SRH’s playing XI when the team was already out of the playoffs race.

“For David Warner obviously, he has been an iconic T20 player. But it is unfair to recognize people like Warner only in this format. He is just a champion player. His situation leading to this World Cup was a little bit disappointing. He was left out of the Sunrisers team.

“But a lot of that was to do with the fact that the Sunrisers had got to a point from where they couldn’t qualify. So it was a case to look at the likes of Jason Roy and the young players that were in the squad. And give them the opportunity. So we can as a franchise look forward to seeing what it looks like moving into 2022,” Moody said in an interaction with ESPNcricinfo.

Tom Moody on Australia lifting their maiden T20 World Cup Trophy

The Men in Yellow exuded some great character to blow the trumpet of their repertoire. The Aaron Finch-led side defeated the in-form Pakistan side in the semi-finals to book their ticket for the summit clash. Australia then dominated the proceedings against the Black Caps to clinch their maiden T20 World Cup.

Opening up on their success, Moody said, “World Cups are prized trophies to have. The Australians have dominated the 50 over World Cup but they never really cracked this one. So to win this World Cup, David Warner and the team, captain Aaron Finch will be very very happy with this result.”
