David Willey carnage blows Australia Prime Minister's XI away
The Brits were impressive in their warm-up encounter at Canberra.
In a dramatic role reversal, England has well and truly turned the tables over the last few weeks and have an upper hand over the Aussies at least in the limited overs format. The bruises of the Test Series loss are well behind them and they are on a high after beating the formidable Aussies in the recently concluded One-Day series.
Things just got even better for the English Lions as they roared their way to a morale-boosting victory over the Prime Minister’s XI in a tune-up T20 game. David Willey was the star of the evening at Canberra as he blasted 79 runs from a mere 36 deliveries after he had claimed 3/32 in the First Innings thereby restricting the PM’S XI to 137.
Willey smashes Lyon all over the park
The victory puts England in a good space of mind before the forthcoming T20 tri-nations tournament with Australia and New Zealand. The highlight of Willey’s innings was his five consecutive sixes off Nathan Lyon. The Yorkshire Lad showed little respect to Lyon as he thwarted him for some huge hits over the Manuka Oval boundary. His opening stand of 87 with James Vince set the tone for an imposing win.
Willey, fresh from his outing with the Perth Scorchers in The BBL couldn’t complete the full baggage of Six Sixes in the over bowled by Lion as he managed to get a boundary. Interestingly, Willey had never batted higher than number seven before this match.
His heroics ended when he was caught by Abbott off Swepson who ended up with figures of 2/33.On the other hand James Faulkner, the Tasmanian all-rounder had a forgettable outing as he scored two runs off nine balls and then conceded 20 runs off two overs thus harming his chances of making a comeback to the Australian side.
It may well have been a warm-up game but it gave England the impetus to end their Australian Summer on a real high and has given everyone an idea about England’s massive firepower and bench strength.
