DC IPL Team 2020 Players List: Full List of Delhi Capitals squad and support staff
Along with captain Iyer, DC have the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Shimron Hetmyer and Rishabh Pant in their batting arsenal.
After a woeful IPL journey, a refurbished Delhi Capitals side had an impressive run in previous year’s edition. After seven long years, DC, led by a young Shreyas Iyer, finally cruised into the Playoffs last year. However, after clinching the Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad, they bowed down against MS Dhoni-Chennai Super Kings in the Qualifier.
With a mix of young starlets and experienced match-winners, Capitals will be hoping to mount a title challenge this year. Under head coach Ricky Ponting and skipper Shreyas Iyer, the Capitals are one of the favourites to clinch the coveted IPL trophy this year.
Ahead of IPL 2020, DC had roped in two England match-winners– Jason Roy and Chris Woakes. But after they backed out from the tournament, the franchise went on to replace them with two bowlers– Anrich Nortje and Daniel Sams. With a strong batting core, the side decided to rather bolster their bowling force.
Along with captain Iyer, DC have the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Shimron Hetmyer and Rishabh Pant in their batting arsenal. While the Dhawan-Rahane duo is expected to bring in much-needed experience, youngsters like Shaw and Pant are looked upon to add some fireworks with their willow.
Hetmyer, after delivering an impressive performance in the Caribbean Premier League, can also emerge as a valuable addition to the DC camp. Along with Pant, the Delhi side also has Alex Carey to fill in the wicketkeeper’s slot. The Australian had an impressive outing in the third and final ODI against England where he slammed his maiden ton.
DC began their IPL 2020 campaign with a win
DC is also not short of all-rounders in their squad. With the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Marcus Stoinis and Akshar Patel, DC are in pole position to qualify for the Playoffs this season. After acquiring Ashwin from Kings XI Punjab, DC will look to utilize the off-spinner’s on-field wit as well as batting ability.
The bowling department also looks lethal with the presence of Indian spinners like Amit Mishra and pacers like Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje. While Ishant Sharma is the most experienced pacer in their squad, he is likely to miss the initial phase after sustaining a back injury. The lanky pacer has been struggling with injuries since the past couple of years. However, if he gets going, Ishant will certainly come out as a vital player of DC’s bowling force.
Delhi flagged off their IPL 2020 campaign by locking horns with KL Rahul-led Kings XI Punjab on September 20th Dubai with a win in the super over and will face the Chennai Super Kings on September 25th at the same venue.
