Coming to meet Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals would want to emulate the show they had put them when the two teams met last week.
The time for the reverse fixtures in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has arrived as the tournament is all set to enter into its second half. In what is going to be the second reverse clash of the season, the Delhi Capitals (DC) will be up against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday at the Dubai International Stadium, Dubai.
Not too long ago did the Capitals beat Steve Smith’s men by 46 runs at Sharjah, where the latter, chasing 185 runs, appeared completely out of sorts and tumbled for 138 in their 20 overs. Unlike that performance, the Royals are entering into this clash after a magnificent victory over the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who were kind enough to let the game slip out of their grip despite being in the driving seat for the majority of it.
After the batsmen put a moderate score of 158 for 4 on the board, the bowlers for SRH did well to contain the scoring and throw RR’s batsmen under the pump. However, a match-saving and a talismanic alliance of Rahul Tewatia and Riyan Parag, after the big guns failed to make an impact, snapped a four-match losing streak and the team pocketed two vitals points in the bag. The team looks a lot healthier with the addition of Ben Stokes, and the Royals will fancy their chance against the second-placed DC.
The Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals have been a breath of fresh air this season. Justifying all the pre-season hustle around them, they have managed to secure 10 points in a possible 14 thus far, and are separated from the table-toppers Mumbai Indians through the Net Run Rate (NRR). DC, after slapping three consecutive victories, lost its last encounter to MI, to displace them from the first position in the table.
Coming to meet Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals would want to emulate the show they had put when the two teams met last week, whereas the Royals, for whom time is running fast, would want to gain some winning momentum proceeding into the second phase of the league.
Pitch and conditions
An even contest between the bat and ball awaits the two teams on Wednesday. Both fast bowlers and spinners have reaped success at this venue, and the average first innings score this year has been a touch over 170. The longer boundaries have assisted the spinners and have put the batsmen to test. Winning the toss and batting first seems to be the way ahead as that has been the template this year despite the presence of dew in the latter half of almost all the games.
Playing Combinations for DC vs RR
Delhi Capitals Probable 11
Despite carrying the bat in the last game, Shikhar Dhawan’s 69-run knock proved to be of little help for the team as he took 52 balls for the same. The ruckus around Ajinkya Rahane finally came to an end as he got a game, although he was unable to capitalise on the chance and managed only a run-a-ball 15. Continuing in his rhythm, skipper Iyer played a fluent hand of 42, however, Marcus Stoinis missed out due to an unfortunate run-out dismissal.
Axar Patel continued to impress as he took a wicket at a reasonable economy rate, however, the pick of the bowlers was once again the fierce pacer Kagiso Rabada. Harshal Patel and Anrich Nortje went wicket-less in the last game, though the latter bowled with great discipline.
Probable 11- Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer (C), Marcus Stoinis, Alex Carey (WK), Axar Patel, Harshal Patel, Ravi Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje
Rajasthan Royals Probable 11
Though the addition of Ben Stokes has bolstered the team, RR will need to address the issue at the top-order, which is not being able to get into the groove, and that in turn is burdening the middle and lower order. After the first couple of games, both Steve Smith and Sanju Samson have continuously disappointed, and a past-his-prime Robin Uthappa has not helped his team much either.
After a couple of match-turning performances, Rahul Tewatia has suddenly become a crucial cog in the wheel of RR, and he would look to continue his good run as would Riyan Parag after the last game. Jofra Archer will lead the pace attack alongside Jayadev Unadkat and Kartik Tyagi.
Probable 11- Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler (WK), Steve Smith (C), Sanju Samson, Robin Uthappa/Manan Vohra, Riyan Parag, Rahul Tewatia, Jofra Archer, Shreyas Gopal, Jaydev Unadkat, Kartik Tyagi
