DDCA appoints Rajkumar Sharma as Delhi's new head coach

Ahead of the 2021 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which will run from January 10, the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) appointed the veteran Indian all-rounder Rajkumar Sharma as the head coach of Delhi’s senior team for the upcoming 2020-21 domestic edition. Sharma had previously served as Delhi’s bowling coach but has now succeeded KP Bhaskar to essay the role of the head coach.
In the same light, Gursharan Singh has been named the assistant coach of the team. Gursharan featured in one Test and one ODI for India in New Zealand in 1990. He also has an experience of donning the mentor hat for the teams as he has been involved with state teams since 2007 and was involved with Uttarakhand in the last domestic season.
Rajkumar Sharma is fondly known for his contribution in the glorious career of Indian skipper Virat Kohli. The former Ranji player was a right handed batsman and a right-arm off break bowler and had coached Virat in his childhood days. He represented Delhi in seven first-class games during his playing days.
In addition, the 55-year-old is known as one of the most renowned coaches in the domestic circuit as he was the recipient of the highest government award for sports coaches in 2016, the Dronacharya award for the success his student Virat has achieved at the global stage. He has also coached Associate team Malta along with helping Delhi win the CK Nayudu Trophy (Under-23). Rajkumar was also a part of the camp with the India A women’s team as a coach.
DDCA appoints new physio and trainer for the Delhi side
Meanwhile, Ashu Dani has been appointed as the chairperson of DDCA’s selection committee which already has two members Mohan Chaturvedi and Chetnya Nanda according to ESPNCricinfo. Atul or his nominee will serve as the observer in the selection committee as revealed by the DDCA. Along with that, Delhi has also appointed Umesh Chiara as the trainer while Gajendra Kumar will essay the role of a physio.
All the aforementioned appointments were carried out after they were recommended on December 19 by the cricket advisory committee of the DDCA, which is now headed by Rohan Jaitley, son of the late Arun Jaitley.
