Dean Jones clears air about commentating in Pakistan
His association with Pakistan is not new, he coached Islamabad United in the PSL.
Former Australian batsman and one of the top commentators, Dean Jones was expected to commentate during tours of the World XI and Sri Lanka to Pakistan. He expressed his joy on Lanka agreeing to tour Pakistan for at least one T20 match, earlier but today he took to Twitter to clear out the news that he was willing to commentate during Sri Lanka’s tour of Pakistan is not true.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced that their team will tour their Asian neighbours for not one but three T20I matches in September. There is also a possibility that one of the matches be played at Lahore, where the Sri Lanka team had encountered a terror attack in 2009, bringing about a question mark on the security of International cricket being played in Pakistan.
Will he, won’t he?
Earlier in the day, one of the Pakistan leading news paper Dawn published a news and stated that Jones will fly in for commentary. The Aussie, however, denied the news and also mentioned that the commentators for Sri Lanka’s tour of Pakistan hadn’t been finalized yet and that he would not be coming for the World XI match either because he would be elsewhere.
Two days back, he had also replied to one tweet claiming that he was willing to be a part of the commentary panel. He said, “Well @TenSports_tv has to ask me first! I haven’t been offered a Comm role as yet.”
Dean Jones’ and Pakistan
His association with Pakistan is not new, he coached Islamabad United in the PSL and if media reports are to be believed he will continue his position as the coach in the tournament’s third edition. He was one of the commentators present during the Lahore final of Pakistan Super League (PSL) second edition at Gaddafi Stadium. His team was triumphant in the first edition under Misbah-ul-Haq’s captaincy.
