After a thumping win over the West Indies in the recently concluded T20 series, the focus now shifts to Guyana where the home team is going to host a 3-match ODI series. Islamabad United coach Dean Jones is particularly elated after the inclusion of a young star from his team, Rumman Raees.
The paceman played the final T20 in Port of Spain, Trinidad where he picked up the prized wicket of Kieron Pollard. He only gave away 25 runs in the allotted 4 overs at an economy of 6.25. Given his impressive run in the recent season in Pakistan Super League and the last T20I, Raees was aptly provided with the nod ahead of the ODI season.
In an interview with Geo news, Jones stated that the 25-year-old was the bowler under the pump in the recent season of the PSL. “I have never seen a person enjoy bowling more when the batsmen are going after you. He is a very different breed” quoting the Australian.
While praising the young fast bowler, he further added, “People think he just has variations, he can clock up to 140kph and is getting faster each year”. Jones cited the importance of variation in modern day cricket and how one should be intelligent enough to mix them up.
With the use of these variations, he has bamboozled many batsmen during the tenure of his young career. Throughout his T20 career, he picked up 72 wickets at an outstanding economy of 7.
Rumman Raees is also renowned for his signature celebration after taking a wicket. When all his contemporaries display aggressive emotions after taking a wicket, this bowler stands out by portraying a calm demeanor. “There is no message behind this gesture, it’s just an expression of celebration. It’s T20 cricket, one shouldn’t be surprised to get hit for six after taking a wicket. It’s hence better to celebrate with low intensity”, iterating the bowler.
Here is the royal celebration:
