Dean Jones hails the Indian batsmen for their application at Kennington Oval
The Indian batsmen didn't surrender and oozed confidence in the middle, which showed from the manner they batted.
India haven’t had the best of Test series against England as they are currently 1-3 down in the five-match affair. The visiting team slumped in the first two matches at Edgbaston and Lord’s respectively to fall 0-2 down in the series. However, they made a stupendous comeback to win the third Test match at Trent Bridge in Nottingham by a mammoth margin of 203.
Unfortunately, they couldn’t replicate their performance at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton and capitulated to a 60-run defeat. The final Test at Kennington Oval in London has no significance as the Three Lions have already bagged the series 3-1. But India still have pride to play for and show the world that they have the ability to stand tall in tumultuous times.
Indian batsmen buckle down
The visitors put severe pressure on the English batsmen on the first day, but the likes of Stuart Broad and Jos Buttler dragged them out of the pits. The Poms eventually managed 332 runs and Buttler contributed 89 of them. While batting, a number of the Indian batsmen got their eyes in and looked determined to convert. Unfortunately, none couldn’t.
On the third day’s morning, Hanuma Vihari and Ravindra Jadeja were in with a herculean task of wiping off the 158-run deficit. Nevertheless, they didn’t surrender and oozed confidence in the middle, which showed from the manner they batted. Vihari, who made his debut, scored his maiden half-century after which he perished to off-break bowler Moeen Ali.
In the meantime, former Australian cricketer Dean Jones was awestruck with the application of the Indian batsmen in the middle under extreme pressure. “I have been so impressed by the Indian batsmen today.. their commitment and application has been good to watch. But how many balls would have hit the stumps today? #EngvInd,”
