Dean Jones impressed with Kohli’s knock and thinks Cook is Ashwin’s bunny
While Kohli scored 149 in the first innings, Ashwin dismissed Cook in both the innings.
Virat Kohli has to date scored 22 Test hundreds but the world will keep talking about his last Test hundred for more time than it did for any of his other 21 tons. Kohli put the ghosts of his previous tour to England to rest with the first innings on the 2018 tour. While his collective score last time was 134, he scored 149 on day 2 of the first Test at Edgbaston. Among those who were extremely impressed with his performance is former Australian cricketer Dean Jones.
Deano lauded Kohli’s performance and didn’t miss India’s lead spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s effort to dismiss England opener and their highest run-scorer in Test cricket Alastair Cook in both the innings. Cook’s dismissal on the last ball of day 2 was almost a replay of the first innings as Ashwin pitched the ball on and outside his leg-stump and got it to spin from there.
Ashwin’s bunny
The left-hander twice in two innings failed to read the same ball and was squared up. It hit the top of his off stump and Cook was on his way back to the pavilion and so was everyone else as it drew curtains on the day.
This is the 9th time Ashwin has dismissed the former England captain in Test cricket after having faced off in 22 innings. He has had a magnificent game thus far having picked a four-wicket haul in the first innings. If this is any indication, the off-spinner has already set the tone of the series for the most experienced English batter.
Professor Deano’s tweet read- “OMG @imVkohli #149 And @ashwinravi99 has got Cook 9 times in 22 innings ”
India in command
India at stumps on day 2 might have conceded a lead of 22 runs but considering the turn of events in the last two days, it is their dressing room that will feel they’ve closed in on crucial moments much better and believe the game to be in their control. England at one point had a chance of posting a huge total but they couldn’t and then could’ve restricted India close to 100 runs but let them score 274 and it might just hurt them dearly as the Test match progresses.
