The Indian team is probably playing more cricket when compared to teams like New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. Currently, they are in England playing a five-match Test series. Further, just after the conclusion of the Test series, the players will be flying to the UAE for the Asia Cup which is scheduled to begin on 15th of September in Dubai.
However, it isn’t clear yet if Indian skipper Virat Kohli will feature in that tournament. In the second Test match against England, Kohli talked about the workload as he is struggling with a lower back strain. More importantly, the back issue has been coming back again and again. Though it’s still uncertain whether he will be playing in the tournament, Dean Jones, who launched Star Sports’ Asia Cup 2018 campaign is optimistic that the Indian captain will play the tournament.
Virat would play the tournament on one leg: Jones
Dean Jones said, “The workload is important for players. Knowing Virat he would play the tournament on one leg if he has to on most occasions. The Asia Cup is a prestigious tournament. He would like to be there, I don’t know how bad his back is. Someone has to straighten it out.”
“The good thing is that, if he doesn’t get there for whatever reason, there is an opportunity for another guy to stand up. There is the Australian tour later on; but as a cricketer, he’s just got to say let’s get through with the Test series (against England), then the Asia Cup and the series in Australia,” he added.
The Three Major Things
The former Australian cricketer also talked about Kohli’s priorities in the next few months. “You have got to put things in priority. I think for Virat, the three major things would be, winning the World Cup, series in Australia and the Asia Cup,” Deano stated.
