Deep Dasgupta picks his three draft picks if he becomes a cricket director of a new franchise

The draft picks are the allocation of certain players to the respective teams ahead of the auction. After this allocation, the team signs exclusive contact with the player, and no other team is eligible to sign that player. A similar process was followed in the Indian Premier League 2022 auction as well.
The two new entrants of the ongoing season, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Gujarat Giants (GT) submitted their draft picks. In the latest interaction, the former Indian cricketer turned commentator Deep Dasgupta chose his first three draft picks, if he was the cricket director of a a new franchise. He went with KL Rahul, Ayush Badoni and Rashid Khan as his draft picks before building the squad around them

“One Indian marquee player, I will pick is KL Rahul with 400-500 run every year, and is a wicket-keeper and captaincy material as well. Then I will chose middle-order batter Ayush Badoni who can finish games. The overseas star will be Rashid Khan, match-winner and will certainly bowls 4 overs,” Deep Dasgupta told CricTracker’s ‘Not Just Cricket’ show presented by Sky247.net.
Over the years, Rahul has been a consistent run-scorer in the IPL. After getting a contract with Punjab Kings in 2018, he has garnered around 600 runs in each season until 2021. He captained the side as well in 2020 and 2021. In the 2022 season, he has already scored over 350 runs in eight innings and is the leader of LSG team, who have five wins in eight league matches.
The youngster Badoni has impressed in his debut IPL campaign by scoring 134 runs and taking a single wicket so far. He has helped the LSG side to win a couple of game with his ball-striking capabilities.
The Afghanistan spinner Rashid has been featuring in the IPL since 2017, and served as a key bowler to the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side until 2021. In the ongoing season, he is plying his trade for Gujarat Titans and has eight wickets in seven appearances so far. He also served as the stand-in captain in one of the games and contributed quickfire 40 off 21 to secure a thrilling victory for the team.
