Delhi Capitals should thank Kagiso Rabada: Gautam Gambhir

After the 19-year-old Prithvi Shaw seemingly helped the Delhi Capitals cruise towards chasing a target of 186 runs against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday, the run chase got decelerated as the hosts at the Feroz Shah Kotla lost the young opening batsman who was dismissed at 99. 

What could have been a comfortable victory for the Delhi-based franchise then ended up being decided by a Super Over battle between the two teams. As Delhi required just six runs from the last over, the chinaman Kuldeep Yadav stepped in and bowled a profound over assuring that the match ended in a tie, helping the KKR avoid a definite defeat.

Stepping into the Super Over contest, Shreyas Iyer’s team scored 10 runs in their allotted over and set a target of just 11 runs for the KKR. They nearly didn’t have the last set of two points almost having made a hash of an easy game against KKR.

“Chasing 186 to win DC were galloping at 170 for two. From there to win the game in a super over is challenging your luck far too much. They should thank Kagiso Rabada for some old-fashioned death bowling in the super over. Prithvi Shaw is carrying his high backlift riding on an even higher confidence quotient,” Gambhir wrote in his column for the TOI.

The choking continued for the Capitals against the Kings XI Punjab and this time nobody could save them. After sitting comfortably at 144/3. chasing 167, they were bundled out on 152 to leave everyone including themselves stunned.
