Delhi Daredevils and Chennai Super Kings set to suffer huge losses
This move has hurt CSK as they are set to lose out on home advantage, while they would also take a hit of 3 crores on their revenues.
The tensions in Chennai due to Cauvery dispute forced the BCCI to shift the IPL matches out of Chennai. The board decided to shift all the home matches of the CSK from Chennai to Pune. This move has hurt CSK as they are set to lose out on home advantage, while they would also take a hit of 3 crores on their revenues.
CSK had no other option
A top CSK official said that they had no other option as playing matches was a priority for them. The official further said that their first goal is to get the ground ready for IPL. He admitted that the franchise is yet to calculate the cost, but they expect to incur losses up to 3 crores.
“Our first goal was to be match ready for the new venue. We have not yet calculated the financial impact. In rough estimations, it will be anywhere in the range of ₹ 3 crores. ” The official said as quoted by the inside sport
On a positive note, the franchise is expecting higher revenues in Pune, hence that might help them to reduce the losses. The official also talked about franchise’s decision of booking train to bring supporters from Chennai to Pune. “That is the least we could have done for our loyal fans. If you look at CSK over the years, it is all about loyalties. We will continue serving our fans in the best possible manner.”
Delhi Daredevils set to suffer losses too
The tickets in the clubhouse area in the Feroz Shah Kotla are one of the most sought-after tickets. There is a case in the court for not allowing DD to sell tickets in that area as it is ‘dangerous’. Only the camera crew would be allowed to use that area, where 2300 people can sit.
This decision would mean that franchise would lose around 1 crore rupees per match, which would mean the loss will be 8 crore rupees for the whole season. The Delhi Daredevils franchise had the option to shift the matches from Delhi but they didn’t think that option is financially viable hence they declined this.
