Delhi hotel where MS Dhoni and the Jharkhand team were residing catches fire
MS Dhoni and the Jharkhand team have continued their dream run in the ongoing Indian domestic season; the team first qualified for their first Ranji Trophy semi-final and now find themselves among the top four teams in the premier List A tournament the Vijay Hazare Trophy as well. They beat Vidarbha in the quarter-final a couple of days ago and were supposed to play the semi-final against Bengal in Delhi today. But the hotel in which the team was stationed in caught fire early today morning.
Welcome hotel in Dwarka was hosting MS Dhoni and co. at 6 am on Friday (March 17) morning a few hours ahead of the scheduled departure of the team a fire broke out in the hotel. The reason for the fire are still unknown but the players and others were evacuated safely well within time.
Their gears, equipment and other baggage though couldn’t be retrieved. This situation left the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) with no option but to postpone the match. The Jharkhand vs Bengal semi-final will now be played on Saturday and media reports also suggest that the venue has been changed from the Palam Ground to the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi due to security concerns.
Earlier on Thursday (March 16), Tamil Nadu beat Baroda by 6 wickets in the first semi-final of the tournament to become the first team to qualify for the final scheduled to be played on Sunday at the Kotla.
The young Jharkhand team led by the inspirational former Indian captain Dhoni has defeated their opponents with quite some ease. Their bowlers have stepped up to ease things when the batters had an off day and on other occasions, the batsmen have pulled their weight pretty decently to give this team, a bunch of promising talents a real chance in the tournament.
