Betting and gambling during IPL is a common phenomenon in the recent years. The problem lies at both micro and macro levels. Teenagers are involved in gambling in schools and high-profile players have been found involved in spot-fixing.

Even the franchise owners are involved in such activities to form a global syndicate. In 2013, three players from Rajasthan Royals were arrested on the charges of spot-fixing. Former Indian Test player S Sreesanth too was arrested which shocked the entire cricketing fraternity. Other than him, a couple of domestic players namely Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan were also arrested in the process.

Rajasthan Royals co-owner and husband of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra, was also questioned for involvement in an illegal betting case. The Supreme Court also asked the then BCCI President N Srinivasan to step down from his post. Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan were further relegated from the league for two years.

In an exclusive case, N Srinivasan‘s son in law and team Principal of Chennai Super Kings, Gurunath Meiyappan and actor Vindu Dara Singh were also arrested for alleged betting and having links with bookies.
