The Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to erase any last hopes that Delhi Daredevils had to stay afloat in the tournament. For a while now, they haven’t been at their potential best with the bat. However, yesterday’s batting performance was evident enough to prove that the team doesn’t lack resources in any department.
After Rishabh Pant’s heroics in the first innings, not many expected SRH to chase 188. That’s when Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson put up a splendid show. Both combined for an unbeaten partnership of 176 runs as they won by an astounding nine wickets. Dhawan spoke about his injury and also praised Pant for his valiant effort.
Delhi should have scored a few more runs
Dhawan ended up scoring 92 runs from 50 balls. It was a welcome return in form for him after a poor string of scores. The left-hander had begun the IPL well but his performance dipped midway. Batting at his home ground in Kotla, Shikhar Dhawan was confident of striking a few in the middle.
“Delhi should have scored a few more runs. Jokes aside, whenever century has to come, it will come”, Dhawan jokingly told. “Post-injury I could not score runs. My belief was always strong. I have played a lot here (Kotla), it is a flat wicket and the ground is small. I backed my attacking game. I had told myself I had to back myself” as quoted by NDTV.
While the whole Delhi Daredevils batting lineup failed to make a difference, Rishabh Pant’s valiant effort was the saving grace. Not only did he bat well, but his sensational innings of 128(63)* literally lifted Delhi in the game. Dhawan was glad about the way the 20-year-old performed with the bat.
“His reverse sweeps, he played really well. It is good to see youngsters like him play so well in this tournament”, said Dhawan.
Sunrisers Hyderabad is now certain to qualify for the playoffs spot. They have seemed invincible with the ball as of late and with yesterday’s batting effort, SRH already seems favourites for this year’s Indian Premier League. Only time will say if there is a second trophy coming back to Hyderabad.
