Team India wrapped up the last two Australian only in 27 deliveries on the final morning in Melbourne. They now lead the four-match contest by 2-1 and are in sight of a famous Test series win down under for the first time ever. Like his other teammates, Ravi Ashwin was also delighted after a special victory and pointed out that it is not at all easy to win in Australia and how important it is to cherish these moments.
The batsmen first laid the foundation for India after winnings the toss. Mayank Agarwal, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma slammed half-centuries while the rock-solid Cheteshwar Pujara once again proved his worth by scoring a scintillating ton in the toughest of conditions. Once the visitors crossed the 400-run mark in the first innings, the onus was on the bowlers to deliver and like they’ve done throughout the year, didn’t disappoint and skittled the opposition without much fuss.
Jasprit Bumrah, who eventually won the Man of the Match award, was at his menacing best and the other bowlers supported him enough as India sealed one of the most dominating overseas Test victories by 137 runs.
Ashwin lauds Kohli, Pujara and Bumrah
Ravi Ashwin missed the game due to the abdominal strain but he was involved in the contest right through. In his tweet after the win, the off-spinner didn’t forget to acknowledge the key contributions from India’s top-order and also called Bumrah as India’s very own Malcolm Marshall.
Bumrah ended the game with the magical figures of 9/86 and among all, his slower yorker to dismiss Shaun Marsh is being ranked one of the best deliveries of the year. With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy retained now, India will be eyeing a historic series win now in Sydney where the final Test will be played from January 3 after which the two teams will face each other in the three ODIs.
Here’s Ashwin’s tweet:
Not an easy place to come and win and every test win here needs to be cherished like there is no tomorrow. Special mention to @imVkohli @cheteshwar1 and our very own Malcom M @Jaspritbumrah93 👏 pic.twitter.com/jIB8oJ0eMG
