The current scenario Indian test cricket faces is not new, similar was the response followed by 2011 debacle. Voices for sacking MS Dhoni were loud even then but are at top desible now. Former Indian and foriegn cricketers are criticising him for the passiveness and uninterest he seems to have for the longest format of the game.

But the difference that has been this time around is Dhoni’s own batting form. He fought and was there till the tail held up the other end. Was the second highest run getter for India with four half centuries. Two men, one of whom possesses impeckable technique and survived fierce spells of gunien fast bowlers Sunil Gavaskar has defended Dhoni. Gavaskar in an interview to a news portal said, “Had it not been Dhoni India would have suffered even more humiliating defeats. “M.S. Dhoni fought it out, both at Old Trafford and Oval. He curbed his natural instinct and scored runs when India needed them. Had he not scored runs, India would have been bowled out under 100 a couple of times,”

Other guy who has come to the Indian captains rescue is former team mate VVS Laxman. Laxman having played under Dhoni knows his thinking and has watched him closely being at the slips. Laxman said, “Dhoni cares about Tests. He is a captain, who is always thinking of improving. When a captain tries to improve and the team does not respond to challenges, that is tough,”

On Dhoni’s spirit for playing in tests which even former captain Sourav Ganguly has questioned.
“What can a captain do when the team loses wickets in the first 10 overs? Dhoni takes a lot of pride in wearing the India cap. He has had success as Test skipper also. He was captain when India was number one,” said the Very Very Special guy of Indian cricket.
Answering the same question Sunny Gavaskar sounded rather annoyed and disgusted “The way Dhoni fought it out gave me the impression that here was a man who was ready to fight it out for his team,”
