Dinesh Chandimal joins Sri Lanka squad ahead of second Test
"Dinesh Chandimal looks fine for the second Test. He started training two days ago," team manager quoted.
Team Sri Lanka have received a big boost ahead of the second Test against England. Their regular skipper Dinesh Chandimal has reportedly joined the national squad in Colombo. Chandimal had to miss out on the first Test at Galle after having been ruled out due to pneumonia. He was diagnosed with the illness that forced him to spend close to four days at the hospital.
The doctors had then advised him to take bed rest for some more days before getting back on the field. Now, as per the most recent reports in Cricbuzz, Dinesh Chandimal has resumed his practice and training sessions in the capital city of Colombo. He is all set to lead the team in the second Test that will be played at the SSC in Colombo.
The Sri Lanka team Cricket Manager Asanka Gurusingha talked about the same and revealed that Chandimal looks good to participate in the second Test. He has already joined the team at the team hotel. He further added that the the veteran batsman is feeling alright and is raring to go. At the same time, the team management and the doctors are keen on monitoring his progress in the next couple of days before they make the eventual call.
Team management optimistic about the return
Gurusingha, however, is very optimistic about Chandimal’s participation in the second Test. In the first Test, team Sri Lanka were led by veteran spinner Rangana Herath. It was a humiliating outing for the hosts as they crashed to an embarrassing 304 run defeat in the match.
“Dinesh Chandimal looks fine for the second Test. He started training two days ago. I spent some time with him today and he has checked in to the team hotel. We will still monitor him and work with doctors. But the main thing is that Chandimal is happy and we will see how it goes and then make a call. But all in all he should be fine,” quoted Asanka Gurusingha.
