There is a lot of emotion that is involved in sport. There is the adrenaline rush that accompanies any spectacular sporting moment, and there are a lot of sacrifices involved in the journey of every sportsman. One such amazing journey unfurled itself on 23rd March 2021.
Krunal Pandya wore the Indian jersey for the first time in ODI cricket, and he arrived onto the international scene in style. The left-hander smashed a whirlwind 31-ball 58* on his ODI debut, to help his side post a competitive total of 317/5 on the board.
But then, there is a little background to all this. Just two months ago, the Pandya brothers (Krunal and Hardik) met with a shattering loss, as their beloved ‘Papa’ breathed his last. And, in spite of his personal loss, Krunal Pandya put up an incredible performance with the willow.
Hardik Pandya in tears seeing the success of Krunal Pandya
And now, Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik has posted a tweet that might make our eyes moist. When Krunal Pandya reached his half-century, his brother Hardik was seen applauding the feat wholeheartedly. There might have been a few tears that would have rolled out from Hardik’s eyes as well. Karthik stated in his tweet that Himanshu Pandya, the father of the Pandya brothers would be extremely proud of both his sons.
Karthik further added that it was a fairytale match for Krunal Pandya, and concluded by stating that this picture is enough for us to understand the bonding in the Pandya family.

The Indian side posted a spectacular come-from-behind victory in the first ODI in Pune. Even though the visitors needed 318 for victory, the England openers were not intimidated, adopted a ‘No Holds Barred’ approach, and pounded the Indian bowlers. The opening duo of Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow were involved in a 135-run stand, and it looked as if England would canter home with ease.
But then, the likes of Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur allowed the hosts to claw their way back into the match. From being in a position of strength at 135/0, the England side could only add 116 runs to their total and lost all their 10 wickets. While Prasidh Krishna picked up four wickets, Thakur scalped three England batsmen as India beat the visitors by 66 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
