Dinesh Karthik’s commentary has been a talk of the town lately. The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman, who made his commentary debut in the World Test Championship Final last month, has entertained one and all with his sharp analysis and cheeky comments. Many have even hailed him as ‘a breath of fresh air’ in the commentary box. While Karthik is also loving his new job, his days as a cricketer are far from over.
In fact, Karthik, who hasn’t played for Team India after the 2019 World Cup, is still determined to make a comeback in the national team. It seems like the wicket-keeper won’t mind playing Test matches as well. On Saturday (July 17), Karthik reacted to a video suggesting he’ll be ready to feature in India’s upcoming Test series against England with dark clouds looming over Rishabh Pant and Wriddhiman Saha’s participation.
For the unversed, Rishab Pant has been tested positive for the COVID-19 virus and is serving quarantine. At the same time, Saha also had to isolate himself after a support staff member, Dayanand Garani, contracted the virus. With the participation of both wicket-keepers uncertain, there have been jokes and memes doing rounds about Karthik receiving a call-up.
Karthik reacted to a similar post recently. The clip showcases a commentator, during a wrestling match, removing his clothes midway and getting into the ring for a fight. “Rishab Pant tests covid positive, Saha is suspected on covid – @DineshKarthik na now,” read the caption. Karthik was amused with the antics and he hailed the Twitter user’s humour.
Dinesh Karthik was impressed with netizen’s antics
“Hahha …. It’s good to see the twitter having a sense of humour too,” he wrote while reacting to the clip. Although the veteran made a light response to the post, it should be noted that Karthik is the only specialist Indian wicket-keeper in England besides Saha and Pant. KL Rahul is certainly in the team but handling gloves in England conditions might be too big a task for a non-regular wicket-keeper.

Meanwhile, the first Test of the five-match series gets underway on August 4 at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Virat Kohli’s men have been doing well in red-ball cricket lately and must back themselves to emerge victorious in this series. At the same time, the home team won’t like to suffer humiliation at their own den.
