Dinesh Karthik reminds MS Dhoni to raise his bat after the latter scored a fifty in Adelaide
Dhoni didn’t score a fifty in 22 matches and 14 innings before the latest series.
The hard-earned victory that India had against Australia in the second ODI against in Adelaide on Tuesday saw some high moments. One of them was undoubtedly the century scored by Virat Kohli who took himself to the third position in the list of all-time highest centurions in international cricket while the other was the unbeaten half-century from MS Dhoni, whose batting form has been a worry not just for the team management but perhaps the whole of India ahead of the World Cup starting in May.
Dhoni, who went without a fifty for more than a year, scored two back to back ones as 2019 started on a good note for him. The first one in Sydney was less adored as it came at the expense of 96 balls making many fans believe that the slow innings put India under more pressure and eventually they lost. However, the wicketkeeper-batsman made a drastic change to his batting in the second game in Adelaide and on that occasion, his unbeaten 55 came in just 54 balls at a strike rate of over 101!
The former India captain was at his familiar best as he belted a six over long-on to reach his fifty and also help India level the scores with Australia in the final over in which the visitors needed seven runs. He then completed the formalities with a single in the next ball to make the series 1-1. As it also drew curtains on the game, there was not much time for Dhoni to rejoice his match-winning innings until possibly his partner at the other end Dinesh Karthik reminded him of his feat.
Here’s the video
Dhoni didn’t score a fifty in 22 matches before this series
Karthik, who also played a little but effective cameo inning after Kohli got out, came to hug Dhoni after the latter hit the winning run and seemed to have reminded him that he had also completed a fifty. For a man who has reached the milestone umpteenth time, did he really forget to do the routine work of raising the bat and acknowledge the spectators’ appreciation? After all, the man, who only plays limited-over cricket now, didn’t score a fifty in 22 matches and 14 innings before the latest series.
