Dinesh Karthik thanks KKR fans for their support, says team is nothing without them
The Knight Riders brushed aside MS Dhoni's Super Kings at the Eden Gardens.
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have been one of the most celebrated teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They have garnered a massive fan-base over the course of the ten seasons. The franchise couldn’t taste much success in their first three editions but soared above expectations to win the championship in 2012 and 2014 under the leadership of the dynamic Gautam Gambhir.
The Men in Purple are undoubtedly one of the most successful teams and the love and admiration that the loyal Kolkata fans shower them with don’t come along as a surprise. Eden Gardens has been the fortress for them where a chunk of the crowd roots for their heroes all through the season. Recently, the Knight Riders played the table toppers Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at their home ground and almost 62,000 people were in attendance.
Dinesh Karthik is captaining the team for the maiden occasion and has been left awestruck by the roars, his men have conjured. Subsequently, he posted a picture on Twitter where he was taking a selfie with some of the fans who stayed back. He wrote – “A team is nothing without its fans! A big thank you to all the fans #gratitude #indebted #korbolorbojeetbo #kkrhaitaiyaar”
Here is the tweet
Kolkata have been a tad inconsistent this season, however, the team has ensured that they stay well in contention for a berth in the playoffs. In their last contest against CSK, they romped to a resounding 6-wicket win. Chennai, courtesy of a late blitz from MS Dhoni, racked up a competitive total of 176 runs. During their run chase, KKR lost quite a few wickets, which could have robbed them of their fifth victory.
However, Shubman Gill and Karthik with their fifth-wicket partnership ensured that they breach the finishing line without any further hiccups. Gill raced away to his maiden half-century in the event, which earned him accolades from the cricketing fraternity. Subsequently, KKR also moved the third position of the points table, above the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) who will play the Mumbai Indians (MI) tonight in Indore.
