While Dinesh Karthik did an impeccable job to silence an overtly loud Bangladesh team in the Nidahas Trophy final, his wife Deepika Pallikal, however, missed out on the action. Pallikal, who is an international squash player herself, missed it not because she was occupied doing something else but simply because she isn’t much of a cricket fan.
Karthik has been married to 26-year-old Indian squash star for the past three years but she hasn’t been seen on Indian cricket tours with the WAGS brigade. The celebrity couple keeps their social media space busy with holiday pictures and happy times.
Revealing why Deepika didn’t see her spouse play, Karthik said, “My wife never saw my match. She gets nervous. Her sisters watched it. Cricket is not her favorite sport. She watches squash when it comes on TV. Cricket does not interest her much.”
He added, “She comes for the odd IPL match. But she does not enjoy cricket so we don’t have many conversations about it.”
The wicketkeeper-batsman also took the opportunity to wish his wife for the upcoming Commonwealth Games where she will partner Saurav Ghosal in mixed doubles.
Karthik’s quickfire innings help India to maintain the record
The diminutive batsman refused to throw in the towel and ended up producing one of the best knocks of his career in the Nidahas Trophy final in Colombo last Sunday. The 32-year-old registered a quickfire 29 off 8 balls to guide India over the rope as they beat Bangladesh by four wickets. With five runs required off the last ball, Karthik showed nerves of steel to hit a flat-bat six over extra cover to keep India’s T20I record against Bangladesh intact.
Dinesh Karthik, with his aggressive yet composed batting, turned the match on its head when he walked out to bat after Manish Pandey’s fall and hit two sixes and as many fours in the 19th over to add vital 22 runs to India’s score.
