Director Seenu Ramasamy’s biopic on Muttiah Muralitharan has been a centre of criticism for quite some time. Vijay Sethupathi has already walked out of the film. However, in the latest turn of events, the Tamil cinema director has stated that he has been receiving life threats and has requested Chief Minister K Palaniswami for support in this matter. The director is known for critically acclaimed films.

Ramasamy believes that deliberate attempts are being made to spark controversies between him and the actor of the movie. The actor-director duo has brought good movies Thenmerku Paruvakatru and Dharmadurai on the table. They are currently working on their next project Maamanithan. Ramasamy was one of the Tamil celebrities who raised concern against Sethupathi doing the role of the epic bowler on the silver screen.

On Wednesday, he took to his Twitter and stated, “I feel I have a threat to my life. CM sir should help. Urgent,” he tweeted in Tamil.

While speaking to the media then, he stated that it happened to be the heights of controversy as Sethupathi told him the entire production house behind the biopic has wished to withdraw from the project. “The issue was over” as per Ramasamy, and he also met the actor regarding the same. He earlier expressed his ‘anguish’ to Sethupathi privately in his interest only, but ‘an image is created that I am against him.’

Many advised the actor to deny Muttiah Muralitharan biopic

“Vijay Sethupathi is loved by Tamils all over the world, including Elam Tamils (in Sri Lanka). But (an impression is being created) as if I gave a statement (against the actor). I am receiving WhatsApp calls in the night, besides SMSes. They (the callers) are intimidating me… I’m receiving threats,” added the director as quoted by The Hindu.

He explained that many Tamil celebrities advised him not to do the movie, but nobody was harsh on him. People are trying to create a wedge between him and the actor. The callers could have been his fans. However, Ramasamy wants a police report and related actions to take over this matter.
