India is preparing for the 2019 World Cup, so the team management wants to get the combinations right. The visitors sealed the series victory with a convincing seven-wicket win in the third ODI. In the fourth ODI, the visitors decided to rest Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni to give chances to fringe players. But the experiment seems to have failed, as the lack of experience hurt the team which has disappointed VVS Laxman.

Dinesh Karthik was picked as the wicketkeeper as MS Dhoni was rested after a great start to 2019. Shubman Gill, who was one of the stars of the U19 World Cup win in 2018 got an opportunity to make his International debut. New Zealand won the toss and invited India to bat on a Hamilton pitch which was difficult for batsmen. The lack of experience in the middle-order meant that India needed a good start from the openers.

Trent Boult rocked the India batting as he rattled the famed batting line-up with an incredible display of fast bowling. While the left-arm pacer was the destroyer in chief, as he took five wickets, all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme played the supporting role brilliantly. At one stage, India was 55/8, but a decent effort from wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal saved visitors from further embarrassment.

VVS Laxman believes Indian batsman must learn to absorb pressure

Former Indian batsman VVS Laxman seemed unhappy with the Indian batting effort. The legendary batsman tweeted that the batsmen must learn to adapt to different conditions in order to absorb pressure. Laxman also appreciated the performance of New Zealand’s star fast bowler Trent Boult. He wrote that it was a brilliant spell from Boult and gave him credit for exploiting the conditions to benefit his team.

“Disappointing day for Team India today, they can learn to adapt and absorb the pressure better in conditions that are conducive for swing bowling. It was also an outstanding 10 over spell from Trent Boult who exploited the conditions well and bowled beautifully.” VVS Laxman wrote on Twitter
