Discarded Pakistan batsman Fawad Alam dismissed charges of match fixing
Fawad Alam has played three Tests thus far for Pakistan.
Fawad Alam has been a prolific run scorer in the domestic cricket of Pakistan. However, despite mustering runs at a fair clip, the left-handed batsman has strained to cement his place in the national team. Recently, the Pakistan Test squad for their tour of Ireland and England has been selected and Alam hasn’t been considered by the selection committee.
Meanwhile, rumours pertaining to his involvement in match-fixing scandals broke out, which was perceived to be a reason why he didn’t find a place in the squad. However, as per reports in brecorder.com, the Karachi-born cricketer has dismissed the allegations and mentioned them as baseless in a recent interaction with the media.
The stern message by Fawad Alam
“I think I don’t need to explain myself, as I have done nothing wrong. My entire cricket career has been clean, committing fixing is one thing I cannot even think about it. If there were such issues, I would not have been playing in the domestic circuit like a lot of players who are out of domestic cricket as well,” he remarked while affirming himself as innocent.
Pakistan has selected a 16-member squad who will be playing one Test against Ireland in Dublin followed by a couple against England at Lords and Headingly respectively. There are five members of the squad who haven’t made their Test debut yet. The team selection has also been criticized by Ramiz Raja. Yasir Shah has injured his thigh and has been ruled out.
Subsequently, Shadab Khan has replaced the veteran, which Raja feels to be an inappropriate move as the bowling lacks experience. Meanwhile, Fawad Alam’s non-selection in the team remains to be unfathomable. Alam didn’t even play the recently concluded third edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
