Discovery Communications bags broadcasting rights for World XI tour to Pakistan
The tour will get underway in the second week of September with the first T20 to be played on September 12.
The Discovery Communications have managed to bag the broadcasting rights for the upcoming World XI tour to Pakistan. DSport, the sports channel owned by the media company, will air the three T20s that will be played between the World XI and Pakistan during the tour. The tour will get underway in the second week of September with the first T20 to be played on September 12.
All the three matches will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium at Lahore. The matches will be day-night fixtures. This particular tour has already seen a lot of curves even before it has actually rolled out. The International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have a lot of expectations from this particular series.
They have tried very hard to get things sorted for the series. The World XI tour is expected to serve as the gateway for the international cricket to make a comeback to the Pakistani soil. The Pakistani fans have been deprived of international cricket action ever since the infamous terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus back in the year 2009.
Statement from DC
No major team has toured Pakistan since then. Needless to say, the nation awaits the World XI tour big time. Also, the fans worldwide, including those in India, are eagerly waiting for the mega event. Hence, Discovery Communications have surely bagged a great deal by getting the broadcasting rights for the series. In a statement, as per the quotes in thehindubusinessline.com, they noted that they are delighted to bring the telecast for the Indian fans as well.
“This is the first cricket property acquired by DSport and is indicative of our appetite to offer world class action across categories for the sports fans in India. This unique series is sure to capture the attention of cricket fans in India,” Discovery Communications said.
