11,167 runs from 171 matches at an average of 48.13, if numbers are important in cricket then this man is way up in the elite group. When Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli shared the then-record 664-run partnership for their school in a Harris Shield match, he was on the same team and was due to bat next. Amol had a never-ending wait for a chance to play for India, but he made it worth it.

Representing Mumbai for the first time, Amol scored an unbeaten 260 in a Ranji pre-quarter-final against Haryana, which is still a record debut score in the Ranji circuit. Even though he carried Mumbai’s hopes on a number of occasions and lifted them to numerous trophy, spectators missed the classy touch of this genius at the international level.
