India won the four-match Test series against Australia 2-1 after managing to draw the fourth and final Test at the renowned Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Prior to that, they also won the first and third Test match at the Adelaide Oval and the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) respectively. One of their prime contributors was Cheteshwar Pujara, the Saurashtra right-handed batsman.
Earlier this year, he strained to find his feet in the longest format. But the recently concluded Test series helped him to cement his place in the eleven. He scored a magnificent century, followed by a half-century in Adelaide. The incredible knocks ensured that he walked away with the Player of the Match award. Nevertheless, the 30-year-old couldn’t weave his magic in Perth.

However, he came into his own in the third match at the iconic MCG and racked up yet another century in the first innings. Unfortunately, Pujara couldn’t open his account in the second innings after being dismissed by fast bowler Pat Cummins. Pujara had saved his best for the final Test at the SCG and pulled out a knock of 193 runs in the first innings when India scored a mammoth 622.
Most importantly, he ended as the leading run-scorer of the series with 521 runs from four matches at an average of 74.42. He also hit the most number of fours in the series (50) and was head and shoulders above even the likes of Kohli, who ended the series with 282 runs. In the meantime, Rohit Sharma, who missed a couple of Tests in the series, said that one shouldn’t forget Pujara’s performance.
He took to Twitter and wrote, “Often his performances go unnoticed but my man Puji nobody will even dare to forget this one from you. 3 match winning hundreds, boom @cheteshwar1,”
