'Don't get me wrong' - Darren Sammy responds to Swara Bhaskar's 'N Word' tweet

The Darren Sammy racism allegation case just doesn’t stop. In an interesting turn of events, the former West Indies skipper announced on Twitter on Thursday that one of his teammates from the Sunrisers Hyderabad camp had contacted him after he had spoken about the issue. A few days back, Sammy took to social media and said that he was called ‘Kalu’ during his time in the IPL in 2013 and 2014. He also asked for an apology from the players as he didn’t know that was a ‘derogatory’ word.

However, on Thursday, he came up with a tweet and revealed that one of the players had reassured him that it had come out of ‘love’. He also said that he had no issues in believing the words of the player.

Sammy wrote on Twitter, “I’m pleased to say that I’ve had a really interesting conversation with one of the guys and we are looking at ways to educate rather than focusing on the negatives. My brother reassured me that he operated from a place of love and I believe him.”

After this tweet came out from the two-time World Cup-winning captain, Indian actress Swara Bhaskar gave her opinion. In one of her tweets, Swara questioned Sammy whether he would have been satisfied with such an excuse had it been called the ‘N-word’. She also called out the Sunrisers Hyderabad players. According to her, Darren deserves ana apology.

After this tweet came from Bhaskar, the former West Indies all-rounder was quick to respond. He pointed out that he is not trying to condone the act but he wants to use it as an opportunity to educate people on what to say and what not to. He also explained that he is a proud black man and that doesn’t change.

“Don’t get me wrong I’m not condoning what was done/said. I’m saying let’s use this opportunity to educate each other so it doesn’t happen again. One can only apologize if he/she feels wrong about something. I’m confident&proud to be black. That will never change,” Sammy wrote.
