'Don't see issue with getting into World Cup after IPL' - Vikram Rathour names lack of execution as reason for India's failure
According to Rathour, the IPL hasn’t had any effects on the team’s preparation for the high-profile tournament.
India hasn’t been able to dominate the proceedings in the T20 World Cup 2021 so far. The team has lost both their matches in the mega event and is placed under major scrutiny for their disappointing display. However, recently there have been talks that the IPL fatigue might be one of the reasons behind the team’s poor show.
India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour has denied these assumptions. According to him, the IPL hasn’t had any effects on the team’s preparation for the high-profile tournament. The Indian players have been in the bio-secure bubble for quite a period of time. Some of the key players were first part of the five-match Test series against England and then played in the IPL.
The IPL finished just four days before the start of the World Cup. Rathour added that the tournament served as a great platform for practice and there is no issue in context to it.
“Any preparation is good preparation, I think. IPL does provide you with a platform where you compete against the top cricketers all around the world. So definitely it is a good platform to practice. I don’t see an issue there with us getting into the World Cup after playing IPL. I thought players got loads of games, they could work on their games,” Vikram Rathour said in a press conference.
We haven’t been able to execute our plans: Vikram Rathour
In their two matches of the tournament so far, India has faced dismaying defeats. They lost to arch-rivals Pakistan in their opening game. Taking on the challenge against New Zealand the side wasn’t able to change their fortunes. India’s batting lineup experienced a collapse as the team was wrapped up at just 110 runs.
Opening up on the team’s performances, Rathour asserted that they weren’t able to execute their plans well. He pointed that it was the execution and not the preparation that had led to their dismaying outing so far.
“What happened in the past two games I think is that we haven’t been able to execute our plans the way we wanted to and that has been our issue, and not the preparation,” Rathour added.
