In their debut season, Gujarat Titans (GT) have been terrific swinging six games in their favour in seven appearances in IPL 2022. Currently, they are facing the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their eighth match of the season. Ahead of this fixture, the former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer discussed both aspects of the Titans team.
Jaffer feels that the Titans have covered all their bases by including the Caribbean pacer Alzarri Joseph in the team. He reckoned that he doesn’t see the captain Hardik Pandya bowling much in the remaining matches due to his injury concerns. Jaffer added that along with the star-studded pacers, the team has the likes of Rashid Khan, Rahul Tewatia, and Yash Dayal, which combine as a very good all-around bowling attack.
“I think their bases are covered without a doubt as they recently included Alzarri Joseph in the XI. I don’t think we will see Hardik bowl much, the team will take care of him and will only bowl if needed to, otherwise, they have Lockie [Ferguson], [Mohammed] Shami, and Alzarri Joseph,” said Jaffer on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker.
They will go batting light, and they don’t want to put a load on the bowling off Hardik, which is fair enough. Along with the fast bowlers, they have Rashid, Tewatia, and Yash Dayal, they combine a very good bowling attack,” he added.
Titans have a vulnerable batting line-up in the absence of Hardik Pandya: Wasim Jaffer
Jaffer believes that the batting line-up of Titans is vulnerable if Pandya is not in the line-up or fails to perform as per his expectations. He added that Shubman Gill has also fizzled out after a fine performance in the initial matches, and Pandya should be fit and keep doing well with the bat.
“If anything happens to Hardik Pandya, fingers crossed, so we have seen their batting line-up is vulnerable. If Shubman doesn’t score runs and there is the absence of Pandya, then I have got a question mark. So, Hardik needs to stay fit and keep performing, otherwise, there are loose ends in the batting department,” Jaffer added.
