Don’t think Virat Kohli is my bunny; he’s one of the hardest players to bowl to, says Adam Zampa
In the post-match presentation, Zampa reflected on Australia’s spirited performance while admitting how serious a player the Indian captain is.
There are not too many bowlers in the world who have created problems for Virat Kohli’s batting. However, one who has made some mark on that front in 26-year-old leg-spinner Adam Zampa. Though he hasn’t really checked runs against Kohli, he has succeeded in picking up his wickets quite a few times.
The Indian captain has been dismissed four times in the ongoing series against Australia so far (including the T20Is and ODIs) and thrice of them happened in the bowling of Zampa. As experts have started debating whether the New South Wales spinner is one who succeeded in making Kohli his bunny, the bowler himself is never short of praising the star batsman.
Zampa played a key role in helping Australia win their first game in the ongoing ODI series against India in Ranchi on Friday. He broke two crucial partnerships between Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (56 runs) and between Kohli and Kedar Jadhav (88 runs) and took the wickets of all the three threatening batsmen. He also went for some runs in his 10 overs (three wickets for 70) but the wickets eventually helped Australia win the match by 32 runs and stay alive in the series by making it 2-1.
In the post-match presentation, Zampa reflected on Australia’s spirited performance while admitting how serious a player the Indian captain is. Kohli hit his second successive hundred of the series in Ranchi and also the seventh in his last 11 ODIs at home but an overall batting disappointment saw India falling short of the 300-plus target set by the Kangaroos.
‘It was good to take his wicket’
“We bowled well collectively. The quicks upfront were amazing, Virat is a serious player, it was good to take his wicket when we did. I don’t think he’s my bunny, he’s one of the hardest players to bowl to. I was under a bit of pressure, if he had hit a couple of more boundaries, the momentum would have shifted towards them,” said Zampa, who though was not picked as the man of the match. Australia’s centurion Usman Khawaja was adjudged the match’s best player.
