Shubman Gill is the latest sensation in Indian cricket after he plundered runs with his bat in the recently concluded U19 World Cup in New Zealand. He was also named the player of the tournament which India won famously for the record fourth under the captaincy of Prithvi Shaw. Gill also earned his maiden IPL contract with Kolkata Knight Riders signing him for the upcoming edition. However, despite all the accolades in the early age of his career, his feet are grounded and has cleared that he doesn’t try to cop anyone while batting.

The youngster though took some time to replicate his recent performances in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. After three consecutive failures, he smashed an authoritative ton against Karnataka in a must-win encounter for Punjab. His 123-run knock eclipsed the likes of KL Rahul who also scored a ton but could not win the game for Karnataka.

Gill idolises Virat and Sachin

Shubman Gill informed that the Indian skipper Virat Kohli and the former Indian great Sachin Tendulkar are his idols and was quick to clarify that he doesn’t try to copy anyone of them. “I don’t try and copy anybody. But when I am trying to execute a few shots it sometimes comes automatically. Over a period it becomes part of your muscle memory. But I don’t practise such kind of shots [like those of Kohli],” he was quoted as saying by sportstar live.

He also revealed the dressing room environment during the IPL auction when some of the players were not selected while a few were picked for a whopping amount. “We were not really stressed. But some players got selected and some didn’t. So it was like [awkward]. At that time sir [Rahul Dravid] really wanted us to focus on the World Cup. The time difference also helped because when the auction ended it was late in the night [in New Zealand] and we had all slept,” he added.
