Karnataka batsman Mayank Agarwal has shown some blistering form in the Indian domestic season. The 27-year-old with a brilliant triple hundred helped his side reach in the finals of the Ranji Trophy but failed to win the tournament. The right-hander smashed 5 hundred and 2 half-centuries during the tournament where he became first ever batsman to score more than 1000 runs in a Ranji season.
Agarwal continued his purple patch in the 50-over tournament Vijay Hazare Trophy as his 3 tons and 4 half-centuries were good enough for Karnataka as they became the winner of the trophy. Although the great run hasn’t earned Agarwal a national call as he was not picked for the T20 tri-series involving Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. When likes of Kohli, Dhoni, and Pandya were rested, fans hoped that he might get an opportunity.
Agarwal will be featuring for Kings XI Punjab as the franchise made the highest bid in the recently concluded IPL auction. In the Kings XI Punjab side, the right-hander is having Virender Sehwag as a mentor with whom people often compare his batting abilities.
I am not a man of comparison: Agarwal on being compared with Sehwag
The bowler feels that he doesn’t like to be compared with anyone and certainly not with Sehwag. Agarwal speaking to the official franchise website kxip.in. “I am not a man of comparison and I would not want to be compared with him because he is a legend,” said the batsman.
He revealed that he just wants to pick the brains of Sehwag while he will be with him in the Kings’ XI side. He revealed that has spoken with Sehwag earlier about his game and his advice have helped him. For me, watching him bat and dominate the game was something that I loved. Being in KXIP, I want to keep picking his brain. I have heard a lot of stories about how mentally strong he is and how he enjoys the game. I have had a few conversations with him and those have really helped me in my game,” Agarwal told the website.
The batter also added that he loved the way Sehwag played the spinners throughout his career and that he would like to learn that skill from Sehwag.
