Graham scored 239 runs on debut as a captain in Christchurch in 1967-68 and led his team to their first ever victory over India. He scored 205 in the first innings against the touring West Indies team. Gavaskar also became the first Indian to score a double century in India. In the year 2004, Chanderpaul replaced Brain Lara as the captain of the West Indian team for the series against South Africa. On his very first match as a captain he scored a fine 203 not out, in front of his home crowd in Guyana.
