Sunil Gavaskar is widely regarded as on the greatest batsmen to have ever played the game, though not as big a name in captaincy. He scored 205 in the first innings against the touring West Indies team. Gavaskar also became the first Indian to score a double century in India. He continued his great form throughout the series and averaged 91.50 with the bat. India eventually won the series 1-0.
