My dream to play for CSK is getting smaller day by day: Dinesh Karthik
Karthik was bought for a whopping amount of Rs 7.4 Crore by KKR this year in the auction.
Dinesh Karthik has hogged all the limelight ever since he won the Nidahas Trophy for India last week against Bangladesh. It was a heroic 8-ball knock from him during which he smashed 29 runs and also included a last-ball six when the Men in Blue needed 5 runs. He has been appointed as the skipper of Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL). However, he has revealed now that it has been his dream to play for Chennai Super Kings ever since the inception of the league.
Karthik was bought by KKR franchise for a whopping amount of Rs 7.4 Crore in the auction this year. This is his sixth team in the 11th season of IPL but unfortunately, he has never featured for his local team CSK. Also, now that KKR has appointed him at the helm, it is highly unlikely that his dream would ever fulfil.
Would’ve loved to play for CSK
Dinesh Karthik has now revealed that he wanted to play for CSK from the very first year of the IPL. However, he also realises now that he might never get a chance to play for them again. “Heart of hearts, I thought I’ll be playing for CSK from the very first year. It’s been 10 years and it has never happened. The dream is getting smaller by the day. I don’t know if I’ll ever play for CSK. I have been born and brought up in the city and would have loved to play for the Chennai team,” he was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.
The 32-year-old also believed that leading the franchise like Kolkata is a huge honour and he would want to prove himself. “But today, I have got the opportunity to lead an IPL team which is a big honour and I’d like to do justice to that. I think Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Mumbai have very loyal fans. That’s the beauty of franchise cricket. Chennai has always been an educated cricketing crowd and the way CSK has performed over the years has helped develop this massive fan base,” Karthik added.
Wanted captaincy
Dinesh Karthik, however, has expressed that he wanted the responsibility of leading the side at this stage of his career. “I’m in a space where I want captaincy. I have done it at various levels but this is my first in the IPL and I’m looking forward to it,” the wicketkeeper-batsman concluded.
