Team India’s Coach Duncan Fletcher to continue his duty as coach of Indian Cricket team till 2015 World Cup. Though the BCCI did not officially declare it, was learnt through sources that Duncan and his team of support staff too will continue to hold positions.

Fletcher was under large criticism by former players and cricket experts for being passive. Sunil Gavaskar the newly appointed BCCI President by the Supreme Court order was among a few who were quite vocal about this. Indian team had a poor run in ODI and test cricket over the past one year and really poor overseas test performances raised calls for Duncan to be sacked.

The Champions trophy victory for the Men in Blue and success in the recent World T20 in Bangladesh might have worked in favor of the Zimbabwean. Gavaskar had also prompted to appoint a younger and national coach, suggesting Rahul Dravid for the same. Dravid was quick in stating that he was not yet ready for the job.

The reports suggested that BCCI’s strong man N Srinivasan who was shunted out by Apex Indian court was firm to back and continue Duncan as coach. BCCI secretary Patel the spokes person for India’s cricket governing body few weeks ago said “Let me set the record straight. Duncan Fletcher has the wholehearted backing and support of BCCI. There has been no discussion on his removal. We told him that we have a lot of faith in his coaching abilities and he should not be worried about anything else.”

It is good that the team will continue with the support staff they are familiar with heading into preparation for the World Cup 2015 in Australia & New Zealand.
