David Warner was in ominous form in Australia’s home summer. The southpaw carried it over even in India and scored an unbeaten century at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The knock helped Australia win by 10 wickets after Warner along with skipper Aaron Finch put on 258 for the first wicket. It went without saying that the hosts had to find a way of getting rid of Warner early.

The left-hander started in the same manner even in the second ODI at the SCA Stadium in Rajkot. He spanked pacer Mohammad Shami for a couple of fours to get himself going. But to the Men in Blue’s relief, the southpaw perished in the second ball of the fourth over. Shami churned one out wide outside the off-stump and the belligerent Warner tried to throw the kitchen sink at it.

Warner goes cheaply

He timed the ball to perfection, but couldn’t get much elevation. Manish Pandey, one of the safest catchers in Indian cricket, was patrolling the cover region and the leather sped towards him. However, the fielder didn’t have it easy while catching hold of the ball. He had to pull out a jump in order to grasp the leather. And in the end, Pandey didn’t make any mistake whatsoever.

He timed his jump to perfection and grabbed it with his right hand. It needed a special effort to send Warner back early and Pandey indeed put forth a spectacle. Warner perished after scoring 15 off 12 and it also happened to be India’s maiden wicket in the ODI series. It boosted the hosts’ confidence and they went on to win by 36 runs and also draw level in the three-match series.

To start with Pandey was included in the eleven in place of Rishabh Pant, who didn’t play the game due to concussion. In the meantime, Durex, a British condoms brand lauded Pandey for the spectacular catch. They also took a dig at Warner, but hailed him as one of the strongest players.

Durex took to Twitter and wrote, “Even the strongest players get caught in the Air! #ManishPandey #DurexAir #INDvsAuS,”
