During Shastri’s tenure, there was no agenda and decisions came only thinking about team values: Bharat Arun

Over the last few years, Team India has become a force to reckon with. Bharat Arun, the former bowling coach of India was a critical member of the Kohli-Shastri era. He played an integral role in their successful run. The transformation of India’s bowling from good to extraordinary happened under his reign. Thus, it is safe to say that he made the Indian bowling world-class. Moreover, bowlers picked 20 wickets to win a Test match.

Thus, as a bowling coach, the former Indian pacer always ensured that the Indian bowlers were at their best. Fortunately for the team, he, Shastri and Kohli had a great rapport. Their team values were crystal clear.

Ravi Shastri brought fearlessness and honesty- Bharat Arun

In a recent interview with The Indian Express, the former Indian bowling coach was asked about the team values brought by Ravi Shastri to the table. While answering that question, he also mentioned the fact that there were no agendas during the tenure of India’s former head coach.

“Fearlessness and honesty. During his tenure, there was absolutely no agenda. The decisions might have been right or wrong, that is irrelevant, but they came from the right place, purely thinking about team values and what we stood for as a team,” said Bharat Arun. The former bowling coach of India then spoke about how they evolved as a team.

“Honesty encompasses criticism, self-introspection. It was in telling the team that ‘accept that we messed up’. It helped us evolve the team.” he added. Hence, Arun had heaps of praises for Shastri. Thus, the evolution of the Indian team under the former coaching staff was truly inspirational in nature. Under him, India made it to the semi-final of the 2019 ODI WC as well as the 2021 World Test Championship final.

Ravi Shastri was appointed as team India’s head coach in 2017. He was then re-appointed with the same role in 2019, which saw his contract being extended up to the 2021 T20 World Cup. Just before the seventh edition of the T20 WC, he had stated that the marquee event was going to be his final assignment as the Indian head coach.
